Sets from these mateirals generally fall into the field of representative glass case fillers - most of them are middel range tourist souvenirs in the countries of oirign. Still, there are intersting sets in galss, for example from Murano near Venice, or stone sets by artists....

Celestial Strains

Handformed glass set in heavenly forms, somewhere between Olympus and Paradise! The kings stand an impressive 180 mm, sides are distinguished both by the transparency (except the bishops!) and the violently coloured footpads. Great display set .....but very,very fragile!

Staunton from China

Soapstone (steatite) pieces from China, in molded boxes - king stands 76 mm, pieces are felted - good spread at bases!

Regency

Luminous set - either in soapstone or in coloured marble/alabaster - king stands 76 mm - from Mexico/Yucatan or China (most likely).

Korean Lords

Massive chessmen in marble (rose/greyish), kings at 104 mm, several damaged pieces. Probably a typical souvenir for travelllers to Southern Korea in the last 40 - 50 years. High detail, depicting a feudal court in olden days.

Mayan Rocks

Massive rock gargoyles, fairly typical mexican souvenir. The pieces are roughly carved, probably with machine aid, in light coloured translucent stone, probably alabaster, the green side looks like malachite, but is probably coloured alabaster as well. Every piece is different, the white king stands 134 mm, the green king 132 mm! Pieces are well finished, and seemingly coated in poliester resine. Impressive set to exhibit in a closed vitrine...

Tuscan Abstracts

Abstract chessmen in alabastre in red and neutral, with a bottom alpaka ring for weight, felted, from the 60ies to 70ies. The Kings stand 80 mm . Tuscany is renowned for its handicraft industry dating back to the Estruscans, mainly around Volterra, where the alabastre deposits are situated.
